question about rubs

What exactly is a finishing rub? I heard it on the BBQ pit masters, and seen it on a few forums.
also Is it the same as the first rub applied to your meat?
is there any advantage to using it?

Thanks

A finishing rub is just that, applied after the meat has been sauced/glazed.
Usually (in competition) it is finely ground down and sprinkled on top as a last minute flavour enhancer.

I assume it is some of the herbs or spices from the rub used, or is it the same rub ground down?

It could be a different rub altogether, the same rub or some herbs/spices like salt, pepper, etc.
Usually goround down into a fine powder so it is not so noticeable and incoirpates into the sauce/glaze better.

Again, others can have diiferent ways or methods.
