Critters

Postby Cramden » Tue Mar 09, 2010 9:26 pm

Although I've been at the BBQ, steady even through the winter, a WSM question has come up.
Just starting to use the new WSM and thought I would try a pork butt as the warm weather approaches.
Cooking is not a problem, but as we live extremely close to a massive ravine area and are plagued with racoon and skunks in the spring ( they chew up my back lawn intil it looks like a moon landing gone bad), just wondering if any of you have had problems with uninvited critter guests getting into your cook in the middle of the night.

Would like to grab some zzzzz's during the cooking process, but would hate to wake up with nothing to chew on.

Cheers

I have twice, a pretty small percentage of the time but still. Once we had a bear attack a WSM and once a Racoon. Both times were after the cook though and the damage was minimal. Just a theory but I think the smoker is too hot for them while the cooking is going on. I still sleep peacefuly on over nighters! Then again maybe I'm just nuts!

I'm with Clark,; we live in a rural area with bears, coyotes, raccoons, mink, marten etc. all nearby. No problem to date.
