UDS Material

Postby ribsncoq » Fri Jul 27, 2012 10:41 am

So here's a question to all you UDS guys. I really want to build one but am torn between what type of barrel yo use. I work at an auto repair shop and we go through about a barrel of synthetic oil a month. These barrels are obviously not food grade and are bare metal on the inside. All the food grade barrels that I've come across are painted on the inside. What's the deal? Are there food grade containers out there that are bare metal on the inside? What to do? Don't wanna make chemically induced smoked food

That's it!!!!! I'm going for it. Just gonna clean 'em up and burn 'em real good. They say "you eat a ton of sh.t before you die" anyways. I wonder who "they" are........

My understanding is the food grade have resin coating that is extremely difficult to remove. If you have a synth oil drum, my advice is powerwash it out, then burn.

I have a paint lined barrel that I'm going to get sandblasted, because we have a burn ban in effect where I live.

If you're looking for a hole-saw for your air intakes, "ECO" brand from Rona work great - Ryobi are next to useless.

Matt

I just finished building UDS#8, all are open end petroleum drums, unlined, just do a good powerwash and burn out and you are good to go. b4
