We had an absolute fantastic time, a great spot with some great people. Everyone was so friendly and helpful to a bunch of newbies that were over excited and disorganized most of the day.

Thanks to Joe and Kirk for organizing the event and to the rest of the teams for making our first competition so much fun. Special thanks to Earl of Busting Loose for his help and advice and to our neighbours Cedar Grilling for giving us an ingredient that had been destroyed overnight by a roaming "bear" who shall remain nameless for now!

Congrats again to our other neighbours, Dizzy Pigs for winning it all.

See you all in Paris

Good Morning Everyone!

What a great time in Ottawa! It was terrific being able to get a chance to meet so many of our forum folks!

Special thanks to Kirk and Joe for doing such a great job.

For anyone who has not had a chance to come out and compete or at least drop by for a visit, please try to attend a competition at least once this year...you will meet some of the friendliest people around!

To Mike, Aaron and Adrienne, thanks for letting us sample the best tasting piece of chicken that we have ever had !!! We have our work cut out for us.

Great seeing everyone and we’ll see ya in Paris.

We'll i think my body will heal by the time we go to Paris , sleeping for less than 2 hrs is not good & having beer before noon is even worse.LOL I want to say thank's not just Joe & Kirk but every team that made it out this weekend & give it a try. I can bet that we will see even more teams out to Paris in a few weeks trying to hit the stage or even just to say hi & meet new people.

Bring on the Party.

Cheers

Darrin,

There is a rumour circulating that the "roaming bear" had a penchant for politics and was looking for BEER not BBQ ingredients. LOL

Ottawa

Postby Qfan » Mon May 29, 2006 2:54 pm

Ottawa certainly proved itself to be a potential hotbed of bbq with many enthusiastic and knowledgeble teams and individuals coming out over the weekend to watch and in some cases, compete.
We had a wonderful time seeing everyone and having a chance to make and/or renew acquaintences.
From the moment we arrived around noon on Friday, it was obvious that Joe Murray had invested alot of time and personal energy into pulling this one together. I think he did a wonderful job, working along with the local organizers in making this first Gloucester Fair cookoff a successful one.
Thanks to the 'Backyard' cooks who dropped by our site and especially to Erik/CDNQer who put up with our shenanigans both Saturday and Sunday all in the hopes of gathering some legitimate bbq info from our string of 'blue' chatter.
Kirk; thanks for understanding our personal situation and letting us leave our confirmation of attending til the last moment.
Dizzy Pig Canada is looking forward to Paris and doing 'er all again in 2 weeks. Like Earl says, hopefully the body and the brain will be recovered in time to do it all again, then!

What a weekend!

This was a great experience and a huge THANKS goes out to Mike, Aaron and Adrienne for allowing me into the inner sanctum of the Dizzy Pig team. It's amazing the quality of food that this crew can produce! And they are so well behaved as well....

A big thanks to Kirk and Joe for adding the concept of the Backyard event and for bringing "the show" to Ottawa. It gives us amateurs a taste of the "big-time" without having to invest in a trailer and awnings, etc. I would strongly recommend anyone who is sitting on the fence wondering if they should compete in the upcoming Amateur events to go for it! It's great fun!

All weekend I couldn't help but notice the sense of "community" that all the competitors have with each other. Everyone was so friendly and willing to help out.

A great job this weekend and I am already looking forward to next years event! Good luck everyone in the upcoming events!
