Well lets see, 20 (twenty) teams at $50 each = $1000.00 The cooker retails somewhere in the $1200 area so the actual cost is somewhat less. Could the winner of the event take the cash instead ?

I don't want to get into a long thread/argument about $$ (taking away from the fun of the competition) and I realize i'm newbie in this area, but you still have to factor in all the other costs including time and labour to organize, advertising costs (tv commercials, print advertising) etc. The $50 entry fee is as much to make sure we have committed teams that don't back out and leave us hanging.

Hope to see you there!!

I hope it all goes well. Can't attend this year, but hopefully next year.

For rib selection you can watch this quick vid on Pork Back Ribs:

Thanks J-P, we sure hope this is a big success so that we can make this an annual event. We're hoping that a local farming advocacy group comes through with rib sponsorship - that way they we'll have the ribs supplied completely by local farms and hopefully keep our costs down.

Pepperhead, don't get me wrong what you are doing is a great idea but generally when you are promoting your business you would expect advertising to be an expense of doing business.

There is a group running rib events for new Q'ers, you should check with Strodes Deli in Brantford to see how they are doing those events

Hey all, just wanted to post a reminder to those that were thinking about this that we are hoping to have all contestants registered by the start of July. Our event happens on Saturday August 4th here in Peterborough and we've set up a new website for the event:

http://www.kawarthabbq.com

we have some really good teams already signed up with some top notch cooks so it should be good - there are however several spots still available.

Cheers! b2
